Students say ‘The Kashmir Files’ can’t change the fact that JNU is India’s top varsity

The portrayal of a professor from Delhi’s prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University as a supporter of Kashmiri separatists in the recently released Bollywood film ‘The Kashmir Files’ has left some students of the institute irritable.

According to the students, the film showing the support extended by a JNU professor to the separatists, is not everyone’s stand in JNU on the Kashmir issue. However, despite this, students believe that it is necessary to expose people with such views.

It is the sentiment of an individual and not of the entire university, the students feel, as JNU plays an important role in nation building. From national security to the advancement of science and technology, JNU students have made significant contributions in every field of the country.

According to Siddhant, who is pursuing his PhD from the School of International Studies in JNU, there is nothing objectionable or wrong in the JNU scenes shown in ‘The Kashmir Files’ as there are some people in the university who hold controversial views. on such divisive issues.

However, there are only a handful of people who have a great reach, and whatever they say immediately grabs media attention and becomes the talk of the town, he said.

He further added, “Most of the students and faculty members in JNU do not hold views which are against the national interest. Nor are they involved in such divisive things in any way.” To expose characters like Professor Menon.

Another student, Deepanshu, who is pursuing his post-graduation from JNU, said: “I have seen the film and such films should continue to be made. People from all communities should know how Kashmiri Pandits suffered in the Valley. We Everyone feels so. Making such films has become even more important when the government has not taken adequate steps against the criminals.”

However, according to him, JNU has been portrayed in a very bad light, which is not correct, as such people are present everywhere. Such scenes shown in films are often done for publicity stunts as well.

“It is not an issue with this institution alone. JNU also gives a lot to the nation. We are supporting and contributing to nation building everywhere in the country. There is a lot of scope for positive debate among the students studying here. A platform to speak, learn, understand and express one’s opinion.”

According to Sabarish, another PhD scholar from JNU, any controversy related to the university is given more importance, while the fact that most of the students and professors here work too hard on academics too, is often overlooked. “It’s almost impossible to see an empty seat in a library after nine in the morning. But these things are rarely shown in a movie,” he said.

Sabarish, who submitted his PhD thesis this month, said: “JNU is like any other university. Clearly the students and the staff have different views. But their use of controversial statements has only led to the division of the place by the filmmakers.” And journalists. The university is also providing quality education for decades. It is one of the top universities in the country.”

Deepa, another postgraduate student of JNU, said that the things shown about JNU in ‘The Kashmir Files’ are in front of the people. It is true that such slogans were raised in JNU which can easily harass the common people and there is no justification for such activity in any university campus.

“Most of the students here neither agree with these points nor are involved in any such controversy. The issues here are very different from the ones shown on TV. The outside world knows very little about these problems. In JNU They are excellent scholars. Even today, JNU students hold high positions in many government departments. Most of them are IAS and IPS officers.”
