BCCI President Sourav Ganguly believes that his former teammate Rahul Dravid has all the qualities to be successful in his current role as the coach of the Indian cricket team. Ganguly feels that Dravid’s “intense, meticulous and professional” attitude is just the ingredients a coach needs to succeed in the high-pressure India job.
“He (Dravid) is as sharp, alert and professional as he was during his playing days,” the former India captain said on the sidelines of a promotional event here on Saturday.
“The only difference is that now he doesn’t have to bat at No. 3 for India, which I think he had to face the best bowlers in the world, which he did exceptionally well for a long time,” They said. added.
“Even as a coach he (Dravid) will do a remarkable job because he is honest and has talent.
Being the BCCI chief, Ganguly was instrumental in getting Dravid to coach India after the T20 World Cup last year, replacing Ravi Shastri.
Ganguly said, “He will make mistakes like everyone else, but as long as you try to do the right thing, you will achieve more success than others.”
The top BCCI official, however, refused to compare Dravid with his predecessor Shastri.
