Sharad Pawar: Raj Thackeray remains underground for months; lack of consistency his speciality: Sharad Pawar

Rejecting Raj Thackeray’s allegation that the NCP practices “caste politics”, party chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday said the MNS president never takes a stand on any issue continuously and for three to four months in a year ” They live in “hibernation” which is their “specialty”. Speaking at a rally in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Saturday, Raj Thackeray criticized Sharad Pawar and accused him of “playing the caste card from time to time and dividing the society”.

“On the contrary, the NCP brings people from all castes together. Raj Thackeray should have studied the history of the NCP (before commenting),” Pawar told reporters in Kolhapur.

Responding to a question on the MNS chief’s speech, Pawar took a jibe and said, “Raj Thackeray stays underground for three to four months and suddenly appears to deliver lectures. This is his specialty. I don’t know if he is.” What do you do for months?

Pawar said the MNS chief talks about many things but he lacks a consistent stand.

The former Union minister said, “They talked about NCP and caste politics. The fact is that Chhagan Bhujbal and Madhukarrao Pichad had served as NCP’s House Leaders. Everyone knows which community they belong to. Huh.”

Pawar said his nephew and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar became the Leader of the House after completing 30 years in the Assembly.

The NCP chief said, “Ajit Pawar decided to accept the post after several NCP leaders felt he deserved it as he completed 30 years in the legislature.”

Asked about Raj Thackeray, whose party is known for his aggressive brand of soil politics, praising Uttar Pradesh, Pawar said, “As I said earlier, he can talk about anything. Me. Don’t know what they saw in it. UP”.

“What happened recently in UP? Election results were different for different reasons. But in Lakhimpur Kheri, where farmers were killed…. Farmers were protesting on the borders of UP, but no one to solve their issues. Did not come for it. Many things happened under Yogi government and if he (Raj Thackeray) is praising that government then I don’t want to say anything. It will not happen under (Chief Minister) Uddhav Thackeray’s guidance,” Pawar said.

The NCP and Congress are constituents of the Shiv Sena-led MVA government.

Asked whether Raj Thackeray was trying to align his party’s stand with the BJP ahead of the civic polls in Maharashtra, Pawar referred to the MNS’s poor performance in the last elections.

“Maharashtra knows what his (Raj Thackeray’s) stand was before and now. At the moment his stand seems to be supporting Narendra Modi but we cannot say what his next step will be.

“I cannot tell how effective the MNS will be in municipal elections. But the data from the last elections shows that they (MNS) had won a limited number of seats and that number can be counted on the fingers of two hands. Thus supporting them But I don’t know how MNS will perform in future.”

Once a supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Raj Thackeray would later become a bitter critic of him, often finding “flaws” in the Gujarat model of development described by Modi when he was the chief minister of that state.
