northern railways: 1.49 lakh entry-level posts lying vacant in Indian Railways: Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Wednesday said that at present 1.49 lakh entry level posts are vacant in the Indian Railways. In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, he said that among all the zones, Northern Railway has the highest number of vacancies (19,183) in entry level posts.

He said that the South Central Zone of Indian Railways is at the second position with 17,022 entry level posts vacant.

In December last year, the national transporter had to postpone its NTPC and Level 1 tests following violent protests by job candidates over the selection process for its recruitment exams.

The recruitment drive for Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) for 35,281 vacancies in various categories from junior clerk, train assistant, guard, time-keeper to station master was at the center of widespread protests in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh. and Jharkhand.

The candidates alleged that while more than 7 lakh “applications” were shortlisted, the actual number of candidates was around 3.84 lakh as the same person may have been shortlisted for more than one post.
