Manoj Sinha: Will not buy peace in J-K, but will establish it: LG

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said the government was committed to establishing peace in Jammu and Kashmir instead of the “previous practice of buying it”. He said the security forces have gained an edge in combating terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and are working to destroy the terror ecosystem in the Union Territory.

“We will not buy peace. We will establish peace (in Jammu and Kashmir),” Sinha told reporters at the Raj Bhavan.

Responding to a question on how selective killings by terrorists create an atmosphere of fear in Kashmir, Sinha said, “The intention of our administration is very clear that it is not to buy peace but to establish it.”

“The era is gone when peace was being bought in Jammu and Kashmir. We will establish it. We want to destroy the ecosystem of terrorism from its roots,” he said.

The LG further said that it may take time but the government will destroy the terror ecosystem.

“Security forces have their hands (on terrorists). It is an accepted fact. Our security forces are capable of breaking their (terrorists’) backbone,” he said.

Sinha said terrorists are attacking soft targets out of desperation, but attention is being paid to it.

He cautioned that such incidents may happen in future also.
