legislature council elections: Bihar legislative council polls underway

Voting is underway on Monday for two dozen seats in the Bihar Legislative Council, where biennial elections are being held nearly a year ahead of schedule. The term of 24 seats in the 75-member Upper House ended in July last year, but the elections had to be postponed due to circumstances arising out of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Due to the delay in the Panchayat elections due to the pandemic, the Legislative Council elections were delayed.

Five seats fell vacant before the end of the term due to the death of the MLC or his election to the assembly.

Around 1.32 lakh voters will decide the fate of 185 candidates at 534 polling stations, one each for each administrative block.
