BJP MLA Kailash Chandra Gahtori on Thursday resigned from his Champawat seat, paving the way for Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to contest the assembly bypoll from there. BJP sources said here that Gahtori submitted his resignation to Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri.
Gahtori visited the chief minister’s residence soon after resigning from the seat.
Though BJP had won the recently held Uttarakhand assembly elections, Dhami himself could not win from his Khatima constituency. He has to become a member of the state legislature within six months to continue as chief minister.
Gahotri had offered to vacate his seat for Dhami soon after taking oath as the chief minister.
