In summer time: As menswear remains a growth opportunity for many brands, Francis Valentine J. Trying her hand in this area in collaboration with the press for one season.
Consisting of apparel and accessories, the just-out capsule collection is a first for New York-based Francis Valentine. Union featured the label’s vintage-inspired prints and J.J. Contains the classic Ivy League style of press. Purpose is a summer-ready assortment: think floral buttoned sports shirts, preppy hibiscus-printed pants, madras shirts and washed-up twill shorts in pastel hues.
Retail prices range from $110 to $245 for the Made-in-USA assortment. Within hours of its launch on Wednesday, J.J. The “Prospect Park” print trousers for $165 were sold on the press website. The collection is also being sold through the Francis Valentines site and in select stores.
While for Frances Valentine the focus is on women’s sportswear and accessories, the company’s cofounder and CEO Alice Aron has menswear experience as a founder of Jack Spade and Kate Spade. Based in New York City, Francis Valentine was started in 2016 by Aarons, Andy Spade, and his late designer wife, Kate.
Positioned as a modern American lifestyle brand, Frances Valentine recently opened a pop-up store in the Hamptons, where it also has a permanent outpost in Sag Harbor. The brand is launching a series of special trunk shows with one slated for May 10 in Raleigh, NC that will raise funds for Dress for Success in Triangle, NC, and another set for May 12 in Richmond, VA that will One Love Foundation will help support.
J. Press name Jacobi Press was a Latvian immigrant who took his roots in New Haven, Conn., in 1896 to continue his rabbinic studies. Instead, he began working at Goldbaum Tailors and became a partner. In 1908, six years after the first store opened in New Haven, Jacobi opened his own tailor shop at J.J. Bought Goldbaum to make the press.
