Fendace Collection to Be Available Starting May 12 – WWD – Pen 18

Milan – In September, Donatella Versace characterized the Fends show as “a milestone moment,” a full-on creative swap presented on the runway, and the collection is now set to bow May 12 with a dedicated communications campaign .

The Fendace collection will be available through a range of global events and pop-ups in cities such as Dubai, London and Los Angeles or New York, Paris and Tokyo, and will be the only store to offer the full collection.

The collection will also be segmented through Fendi and Versace online and retail boutiques, with Fendi presenting the Versace by Fendi collection, and Fendi by Versace styles available at the Versace boutique and the brand’s online store. The capsules of Joint Fiends branded look will be available from both the fashion houses.

As mentioned, Donatella Versace designed a Fendi collection and Kim Jones, Fendi’s artistic director of couture and womenswear, created the Versace lineup. Both collections are for pre-fall 2022.

The swap went as far as producing Fendi’s Versace collection and vice versa, and the project meant each designer had to dive into the other brand’s archives.

“It’s a swap rather than a collaboration and, above all, it’s done out of friendship,” Jones said. “It’s the beauty of togetherness after time and a celebration of the women who have inspired me so much,” the designer said.

Versace’s take on Fendi adds a strong dose of sexy to the brand with a tiny little mini covered in the Fendi logo; mesh fabric; ’70s denim pantsuit with bell-bottoms; Versace-ified pecabos and baguettes (including safety pins), and long pink and silver gowns in shimmering.

The Fendace ad campaign was lensed by Steven Meisel and features videos from filmmaker Alec Maxwell.

“The campaign reflects the same spirit of friendship and energy that we had when we were designing the collection,” said Donatella Versace, Versace’s chief creative officer. “Kim is a visionary designer and innovator. To me, Fends will always mean love.”

Presented in two celebratory campaign videos, each saw a cast of models ranging from Adut Ekech and Amar Ekwe to Anja Rubik, Anok Yai, Iman Hammam and Lena Zhang entering the Fendace nightclub in what–what else–Fendace outfits. . However, he needs to get past two unusual bouncers – Naomi Campbell and Kristen McMenemy – at the door.
