congress: When will PM sack Ajay Mishra? asks Congress after SC cancels bail of Union minister’s son

After the Supreme Court canceled the bail granted to Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, the Congress on Monday hit out at the central government and questioned when Prime Minister Narendra Modi would sack his cabinet colleague. Congress general secretary and chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that finally the Supreme Court canceled the bail of the son of a minister who “trampled” farmers in Lakhimpur.

“When will Modi ji sack Ajay Mishra Teni from his cabinet? When will the BJP stop betraying the farmers and strengthening the killer? How long will the Modi government keep atrocities on farmers?” Surjewala said in a tweet.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the families of farmers killed in the Lakhimpur violence were met with injustice and atrocities to a “brutal degree”.

In a tweet in Hindi, the Congress general secretary said, “The families of the victims of the Lakhimpur farmer massacre are fighting for justice full of struggle. They were subjected to injustice and cruelest atrocities under the protection of power.” ,

“It is the responsibility of all of us to stand till the end in the fight for justice of the victims’ families, no matter how long the struggle,” he said.

The Supreme Court on Monday canceled the bail granted by the Allahabad High Court to the son of a Union minister in the case and asked him to surrender within a week.

A special bench comprising Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli said the high court took into account irrelevant considerations and gave additional importance to the contents of the FIR.

On October 3 last year, eight people were killed during violence in Lakhimpur Kheri, when farmers were protesting against Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s visit to the area.

According to the UP Police FIR, four farmers were crushed by an SUV in which Ashish Mishra was sitting. Following the incident, angry farmers allegedly thrashed the driver and two BJP workers to death.

A journalist was also killed in the violence that sparked outrage between opposition parties and farmer groups agitating against the Centre’s now repealed agrarian reform laws.
