A minor scuffle broke out between two communities at Hollagunda village in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district, but the situation returned to normal after police intervened and pacified both the sides. Police sources said the clash took place on Saturday night when a religious procession was being taken out on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.
When the procession reached a mosque in the village, the organizers of the jubilee turned off the mic in honor of Ramzan. But some devotees reportedly raised slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’.
Angered by this, Muslims started pelting stones on the Hanuman Jayanti procession. Police said the jubilee participants also retaliated.
After this, the police took both the sides to the local police station to quell the panic. Sources said that there was some tension at the station too but the officials gave a stern warning to both the sides and disturbed the peace.
Kurnool Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kumar Reddy reached Hollagunda village to monitor the situation. Additional police force was deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
