Abhishek Banerjee, wife Rujira to appear before ED for questioning in connection with coal scam

Trinamool Congress MP and party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira will arrive in Delhi on Sunday to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in connection with the money laundering probe related to the coal scam in West Bengal. Well placed source said.

He said both West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee and his wife are to face ED officials for questioning in the national capital on March 21 and 22.

“Both Abhishek Banerjee and his wife will fly to Delhi on Sunday afternoon to appear before ED officials tomorrow and the day after. The couple will be interrogated as per law,” the source said.

Banerjee and his wife had earlier moved the court against the ED’s Delhi summons, contending that since both are residents of West Bengal, they should not be called by the agency to appear in the national capital.

His petition was dismissed by the Delhi High Court on March 11.

Incidentally, ED officials had questioned Abhishek Banerjee for over eight hours in September last year in the same case.
